BRIT Awards in London name Justin Best International Breakthrough Artist

(
Feb. 24, 2011 – New York, NY)  Island Def Jam superstar Justin Bieberwrites himself into Sound scan chart history – again! – as NEVER SAY NEVER: THE REMIXES (released February 14th) debuts at #1 on first week sales of more than 161,000 copies.  This gives Justin his second #1 title on the album chart in less than a year, since My World 2.0 debuted at #1 in April 2010.

At the same time, Justin becomes the first artist in nearly two decades to place four titles inside the Top 40 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as NEVER SAY NEVER: THE REMIXES leads a juggernaut that is followed by My World 2.0 at #8 (over 54,000 sales in its 48th week out), My Worlds Acoustic at #18 (24,913 sales), and his 2009 debut My World at #31 (over 18,000 sales).  Justin is the first artist to accomplish this quadruple-hit since Garth Brooks in 1993.  (And as Billboard also reports, NEVER SAY NEVER: THE REMIXES is the first remix collection to top the album chart in almost a decade, since Jennifer Lopez’s J to tha L-O! The Remixes back in 2002.)

NEVER SAY NEVER: THE REMIXES leads with Justin’s newest single, “Never Say Never,” featuring Jaden Smith, which they sang together at Justin’s first-ever Grammy performance, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles two weeks ago.  The legendary ‘Grammy bump’ catapulted sales of “Never Say Never” up 67%, as the song rose to #4 (from #12) on the Digital Songs chart with sales of 198,950 units.  Justin also hits #1 & #2 on the Weekly Combined Streaming Playlist, as “Never Say Never” jumps to #1 (from #42) with 1.5 million streams; and “Baby” leaps to #2 (from #134) with another 1 million streams.

Adding to his success on the music charts is Justin’s success at the box office, as Paramount Pictures’ Justin Bieber: Never Say Never claimed the all-time highest-grossing opening weekend for a documentary film, $30.1 million.  The number surpassed Michael Jackson’s This Is It of 2009 ($28 million).  Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which opened February 11th, has grossed over $50 million to date.

Justin’s final month as a 16-year old has been a whirlwind, highlighted by the Grammy Awards telecast on February 13th, when he also joined his mentor Usher on stage to perform his 2010 hit, “OMG.”  Two nights after the Grammys, at the BRIT awards in London, Justin was on hand to personally accept the Best International Breakthrough Artist award.

Along with the Grammy Awards telecast, Bieber Fever spread from coast-to-coast over the previous two weeks with Justin’s television appearances on (in chronological order!): NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, NBC’s The Today Show, CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman, ABC’s Live with Regis & Kelly, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, NBC’s Saturday Night Live, NBC Universal’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, E! network’s Chelsea Lately, TBS’s Conan with Conan O’Brien, and CBS’s The Talk.

Certified double platinum in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, My World 2.0(released March 23, 2010) was the linchpin of over 10 million worldwide record sales for Justin.  Last year, he became the youngest male solo artist in Billboard 200 chart history to score a #1 album, since 13-year old Little Stevie Wonder in the summer of 1963.

In addition to “Never Say Never,” and remixes featuring Rascal Flatts (“That Should Be Me”), Usher (“Somebody To Love”) Chris Brown (“Up”), Miley Cyrus (“Overboard” Live Version), and Kanye West & Raekwon (“Runaway Love”), NEVER SAY NEVER: THE REMIXES also features multiple songs from the movie, including the Diane Warren-penned “Born to Be Somebody.”
